When Mike & Amy bought their house, and I moved in to the basement, they said "We might get a puppy in a year or two. Amy's allergic to cats.." and I said "Oh, okay," not really giving much thought to it.
The other day, Mike and I were talking about a stray tabby we've seen in the neighborhood and I jokingly said "We should get a cat."
Sunday morning we were in the front yard. It was a nice day, so we had the front door open along with the windows and the back door. An adorable little tabby kitten walked up to us. She was very friendly and loving and not afraid at all. She wandered away from us toward the house. Then in to the house. I caught her near the back door and carried her back out to the front, where we petted her some more. She didn't fight at all about being carried and I think we all fell in love with her then. But we said goodbye to her and Mike asked some neighbor kids if they knew her. They thought she belonged to another neighbor, so we put her in their yard and drove to
neonphog and
laurenlydon's apartment for gaming.
We came home about nine hours later and she ran up to greet us as we got out of the car, then followed us inside.
We said "Okay, you can stay here tonight." Mike went to the store to get a disposable litter tray and some food. When he opened the can she did a four foot standing jump to the counter and refused to stay in my arms as mike put half a can in a little bowl. She ate most of it in a matter of minutes, and had the bowl clean an hour later. We gave her the rest of the can before bed.
In the morning, Mike and I went door to door asking if anyone was missing a cat. No one was. We took her to a vet a couple blocks away to see if she had an RFID tag. No tag, and she's not been declawed, so we're assuming she's a stray.
We'll keep her for at least a few days, enough for Amy to decide if she's too allergic to keep it. Apparently Amy really wants a kitten. She has no name yet, to decrease our attachment to her if we do have to give her up.
