In Seducing the Demon: Writing for my Life, Erica Jong says of writing: "There's no way to do it without grinding up your loved ones and making them into raw hamburger."

I create art, and I have stolen anecdotes from friends and mocked the eccentricities of people I love to make that art.

People who read my work? Consider it a heartfelt apology, for all the times I've stolen your lives.

Writers and artists? If this is true for you, post it to your journal. It's time to apologise.

With one or two exceptions, grudges I've worked through in writing that I will not apologize for.

And no, this is not today's entry. I'll post properly when I get home.
